The worst kept secret in the paddock is finally official, thus completing what MotoGP fans (especially Italians) have been waiting for: Valentino Rossi signing with Ducati Corse. The nine-time World Champion and Italian celebrity is finally paired up with Italy’s most iconic motorcycling brand for the 2011 season, an action that has been the subject of intrigue not only for the better part of this season, but for years inside MotoGP.

In an official press statement, Gabriele Del Torchio, President of Ducati Motor Holding, said,

“We are delighted to announce that Valentino Rossi will be with us from 2011. He is a paragon of excellence in the world of motorcycling, coherent with our Italian company which is a standard-bearer for “made in Italy” excellence. These are key values for success in technology, design and sportsmanship. D-Cam on the Road with Rick Stein
August 2010 saw the first ever live theatre shows for TV Celebrity Chef, Rick Stein. Rick and his producers, Etchells Enterprises and Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, approached Damn Good Productions to put together the shows, which toured Auckland and Wellington in New Zealand.
HD Camera Installation
Damn Good's Ben Alcott has been working with Rick Stein for nearly 10 years, and he knows that a key part of any live cooking show is the food close ups on screen. The set design included a 24' x 13.5' projection screen, and so bullet-proof image quality was paramount for the onstage camera.

Ben has used Gigawave for all his shows for over 5 years, and so the choice of wireless system was obvious. The on-stage handheld was a D-Cam Dockable Digital Wireless Camera with the optional camera control system.

The flexibility of the system was demonstrated in Wellington, when the decision was made to start the show by having Rick look "lost" in the street outside the theatre - the D-Cam went from onstage, walked through the audience whilst on-air, went out through the fire exits and then onto the street - all without a single drop out.

"I love our DCam system" says Alcott. "We use it all around the world on all sorts of different shows, and it is usually the least troublesome piece of equipment out of the whole setup!"

Kékszalag - 'The Long Way Round' Regatta
The course of the Blue Ribbon Round the Lake Balaton Race (Kékszalag) has remained more or less the same since it was first held in 1934. The race starts and finishes at Balatonfüred and there are turning marks at Balatonkenese the eastern, and at Keszthely the western end of Lake Balaton. A total distance of 170 km, making it the longest round-the-lake sailing event in Europe.

Providing close-up coverage of the race is, in many ways, as demanding as the race itself. However, Ferenc Ács, with some assistance from Gigawave's Hungarian Agent, Studiotech, successfully transmitted live images over 30km from a small chase boat to a receive site, on the shore. Ferenc Ács used a second Gigawave link to transmit the images from one side of the lake to the other.

3D technology is certainly attracting a lot of attention at this years exhibition. But, over on the Gigawave stand it's the Company's new Central Receive System that is generating all the interest. According to Gigawave Sales and Marketing Director, John Rolfe,

"We have been very busy. Those people that matter have heard about the central receive system we have just supplied to RTM, in Kuala Lumpur, and have been coming to the Gigawave stand to find out more. With the advent of digital links, microwave technology now offers a number of advantages over satellite news gathering (SNG) in terms of flexibility and cost, and that's what it's all about!"

Another group of products that have been generating a lot of interest is Gigawave's range of digital HD point-to-point links, especially the MVL-HD2.

Mourinho Makes it a Double
Jose Mourinho wrote his name into the history books as Diego Milito inspired Inter Milan to Champions League glory against Bayern Munich. Victory at Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu Statium means that Mourinho, who won the cup with Porto in 2004, becomes only the third man in history to win the Chapions League with two clubs. As usual, on such an occassion, Gigawave HD wireless camera systems were there to record the moment.

Czechs are Champs
The Czechs have returned to the top of the hockey world, in dramatic fashion, with a 2-1 victory over Russia to win this year's IIHF World Championship in Cologne. This is the first time in five years the Czech Republic have won the Championship and, in doing so, ended a 27-game Russian winning streak.

The atmosphere in the Lanxess Arena was frenetic and boisterous, with chanting, flag-brandishing Russian fans outnumbering their Czech counterparts. Despite the Russians being the favourite to win, the Czechs gained the advantage with smart, disciplined, vintage Czech counter-attacking hockey. It was a case of the underdogs, a team with just two 'name players' defeating some of the best players in the NHL. More
