Hong Kong Disneyland Welcomes 2006
"Five, four, three, two, one - Happy New Year!"
Engineers from TWS Asia joined thousands of tourists and Hong Kong residents in the final count down to the New Year at Hong Kong's hottest new attraction - Hong Kong Disneyland

In front of 'Sleeping Beauty Castle', visitors danced to the enchanting tunes of Tony Carpio and his big band. In 'Fantasyland', guests enjoyed reggae, R&B and soul, while on 'Main Street USA', the air was filled with the spicy scent of succulent German sausages and lamb satay.

"We are having a wonderful time here," said one New Year reveller who came to Disneyland with his girlfriend. "It's a great place to celebrate the dawning of a New Year."

For the event, TWS Asia teamed up with top Hong Kong production companies Fieldmaster Broadcasts Engineering and AV Promotions to provide visitors to Hong Kong Disneyland with live coverage of the New Year celebrations on video walls located within Disney's newest theme park.

During the New Year countdown, and afterwards, a D-Cam Clip-on wireless camera system was used to transmit live digital images to multiple receive locations throughout the theme-park. In all the wireless camera system was used continuously for a total of eight hours.

TWS Asia also supplied another local company, SP Engineering, with PTV and MVL point to point links. These were used to relay live coverage of the main New Year celebrations in Times Square, Causeway Bay.

The analogue video signal from Causeway Bay was transmitted to Ocean Terminal in Kowloon and then relayed to Chater Garden. Here it was shown on a video wall for the benefit of New Year revellers in the 'Central' district of Hong Kong.

Les 5èmes Jeux de la Francophonie
Des Jeux de la Francophonie is held every four years. This year it was held in Niger. It is attended by all French speaking countries who compete for honours in various sports and the arts.

The main sporting events of Des Jeux de la Francophonie are athletics, football, martial arts (judo), basketball, table tennis, boxing, and West African wrestling, whilst the main cultural and artistic events comprise dancing, literature, photography, painting and sculpture.

Many of the facilities needed to provide live coverage of the games were purchased specially for the games, or donated by some of the participating countries. The impressive studio facilities at the athletics stadium was supplied by the Government of Quebec, whilst many of the OB vans at the venues were loaned by Libya.
Four Gigawave MVL systems were used to link some of the venues with the main television studio. Two of these systems will stay behind in Niger as they form part of television upgrade being supplied by the Gigawave agent in Niger, Studiotech.

For the duration of Des Jeux de la Francophonie, Gigawave's Regional Customer Support engineer, Raymond Kirkland, was on hand to assist engineers from the host broadcaster, state owned Tele Sahel.
