25th African Cup of Nations Gets Underway
All five of Africa's World Cup nations - Ghana, Ivory Coast, Angola, Tunisia and Togo will compete for continental glory in this year's African Cup of Nations. Host country, Egypt, kicked off the event with a 3-0 rout of neighboring Libya.
Egypt last hosted the tournament (held every two years) in 1986 when they beat Cameroon on penalty 'shoot out'. The Egyptians, who have a record four African Cup of Nations titles, last won the tournament in 1998.

Gigawave has supplied six MVL-D2 links (7GHz) to ERTU. These will be used for live coverage of the opening ceremony and subsequent matches which started on the 20th January 2006 and continue through until 10th of February. Matches are being played in Cairo, Alexandria and Port Said.
This year, the African Cup of Nations has attracted criticism from European football clubs who would rather the African Federation host this event in the summer, so as not to conflict with their domestic schedules. Players such as Sameul Eto'o of Barcelona and Didier Drogba of Chelsea are representing Cameroon and Ivory Coast, respectively, and are among the dozens of European-based players competing for their national teams.

Back in November, ERTU engineers attended a factory training course at the Gigawave Technical Centre. Following this, Customer Support Engineer, Trevor Howard, and Regional Sales Manager, Trevor Vizard, recently spent a week in Egypt to carry out familiarisation training and assist the ERTU in their preparations for the games.

ERTU are a long established customer of Gigawave and already operate a large number of the company's analogue links.

NRK Warm up to the Winter Olympics
Engineers from the Production Division of Norwegian broadcaster, NRK, are busy preparing for the Winter Olympics with live coverage of the Norwegian Cross-country Skiing Championships from Kongsberg.
As well as putting their dockable D-Cam wireless camera systems and newly acquired D-Cam 'Clip-on' system through their paces, NRK engineers are testing out their brand new high-definition OB truck, HD-1.

In addition to the new HD truck, NRK have purchased one of the new D-Cam 'Clip-on' systems complete with 'dockable' camera control and Diversity Receiver. This will be used on a specially installed 'Rail-Cam'.
For both this event and the Winter Olympics, NRK will be using their existing Dockable D-Cams (all with full camera control), plus additional systems that they have hired from Norwegian rental specialist, OB TEAM. These include one of the latest D-Cam 'Clip-on' systems complete with 'dockable' camera control and Diversity Receiver.

Once the Norwegian Cross-country Skiing Championship in Kongsbers is over, the equipment is going straight to the Winter Olympics in Torino.
