Gigawave at Broadcast Asia
Within minutes of the show opening, the Gigawave booth was packed with people eager to see the live demonstration of the low-delay D-Cam 'Clip-on' Wireless camera system.

As with last year's show, Gigawave Sales and Marketing Director, John Rolfe, was impressed with the quality of visitors to the booth, which features a range of Gigawave products.

"The theme of this year's exhibition is 'The Journey Forward'. With Gigawave engineers busy developing a new generation of high definition products, the chosen theme is rather appropriate. I also suspect that it is going to be one of the key issues that my colleague, Kozo Wada, and I will be discussing with visitors to the booth." - John Rolfe

After the show Gigawave Sales and Marketing Director, John Rolfe, headed back to London with a briefcase full of enquiries, happy that Broadcast Asia had lived up to his expectations. Along with IBC and Cabsat, Broadcast Asia is now firmly part of the Gigawave exhibition calendar.

Digital ENG Solution for RTE/Observe OB
Gigawave recently supplied a number of 7Ghz MVL-D2 systems to Observe OB Limited to upgrade the existing microwave system, that is used to feed outside broadcasts in the Dublin area to RTE in Donnybrook, from analogue to digital.
In early 2005, Gigawave were approached to investigate the feasibility of upgrading their existing analogue microwave systems to digital, whilst using their existing infrastructure of antennas/feeds. Observe OB and RTE also wanted the steerable ground receive stations installed on the 300m tower at RTE headquarters in Donnybrook Dublin.

When Jim Devereux of RTE and Ken McAllister from Observe OB Limited visited the Gigawave Factory to discuss their requirements they were sufficiently impressed to request a site survey. On the basis of this, a Gigawave Special Projects Engineer, Len Howard and Regional Manager, Raj Kotecha visited Dublin to establish exactly what equipment was required.

The MVL-D2 systems were delivered shortly before Christmas 2005 with Mike Robinson and Raj Kotecha supervising the installation of the new MVL-D2 receivers on the tower at Donnybrook.

Basic training was given to Observe OB and RTE personnel at the time. However, recently Jim Devereux and Deven Murphy from RTE, plus Ken McAllister and Jim Houlahan from Observe OB attended a full training course at the Gigawave Technical Centre.

Gigawave Staff Attend Snetterton Track Test
A group of Gigawave Staff from the Company's Production, Test, Service departments were treated to a day out at Snetterton Race Circuit to see Special Project Engineers test out Gigawave's new digital on-board camera system.

The members of staff who went attended the Snetterton track test were Ian Butcher from the Testing, Mark Moran from Customer Service, plus Kelly Wolton and David Smith from Production.

Kelly was first to take a ride around the two mile circuit in one of the Ascari KZ-1R . cars that are competing in the FIA GT3 European Championship. Her driver was Damax Team driver, Aaron Scott, who took her out for four laps of the high speed circuit. According to Kelly, it was like taking a ride on a roller coaster.
Whilst Kelly and her colleagues were having fun, Gigawave Special Project Engineers were busy testing the latest version of the Gigawave digital on-board camera system prior to the next FIA GT3 race in Oschersleben, Germany (01/02 July).

Bullish Luck Wins Asian Mile Challenge
Hong Kong-trained 'Bullish Luck' ridden by Australian jockey, Brett Prebble, demolished some of the best Asian milers to win the US$2.48 million 'Yasuda Kinen' and, in doing so, this season's US$1 million 'Asian Mile Challenge'
The 'Yasuda Kinen', held on 04 June at Tokyo Racecourse, is one of four horse races that comprise the 'Asian Mile Challenge', billed as the World's richest Mile Series. The other three races are the 'Futurity Stakes' (Melbourne Racing Club), the 'Dubai Duty Free' (Dubai Racing Club), and the 'Champions Mile' (Hong Kong Jockey Club).

In total the Asian Mile Challenge is worth around US$12.6 million in prize money and bonuses. Having beaten his stablemate, the fabled sprinter 'Silent Witness', to win the US$1.03 million 'Champions Mile' at Sha Tin in Hong Kong, 'Bullish Luck' earned himself a US$1 million bonus.

'Bullish Luck' was the only horse to contest three of the four 'Asian Mile Challenge' Races

As part of the live coverage of this year's 'Yasuda Kinen' race in Tokyo the Hong Kong Jockey Club took along their D-Cam 'Clip-on' Wireless Camera Systems. The two 'Clip-on' systems were used to cover the parade ring and the winner's enclosure.

The Asian Mile Challenge was created in a joint venture between the HKJC and the Japan Racing Association last year, with 'Bullish Luck' its inaugural winner. This year, both the Melbourne Racing Club and Dubai Racing Club came on board, expanding the series to four races, with Bullish Luck winning the overall series once more.

"This will absolutely be the making of the Asian Mile Challenge," said Mark Player, the Hong Kong Jockey Club's international racing manager. "It's the best possible advertisement for the series and shows everyone exactly what is possible."
