Dubai World Cup Goes Digital
Despite a poor start, Frankie Dettori's mount, 'Electrocutionist', put in a storming late run to win the Dubai World Cup - the world's richest race. Using Gigawave digital links exclusively, it was the first fully digital Dubai World Cup and a great result for Dubai TV.
For their live coverage of this year's Dubai World Cup, Dubai TV deployed two D-Cam wireless camera systems in the parade ring. The also used a D-Cam 'Clip-on' for the race starts, and a D-Cam 'Clip-on' in the pre-parade ring..

For this prestigeous event Dubai TV augmented their own digital links with additional Gigawave digital links from Broadcast RF. These included the links used to transmit the signals from a tracking vehicle equipped with two gyro stabilized cameras systems. Both of these used Gigawave MRC Diversity Receivers.

To give an aerial view of the race the latest low delay' D-Cam 'Clip-on' transmitter was used to relay images from a helicoper mounted gyro-stabilised camera. MRC Diversity. Again a MRC Diversity Receiver was used. The results were remarkable - better than ever before. .
In addition to other facilities, Broadcast RF provided Dubai TV with three 'Start' cameras mounted on stalls. Two cameras were used to provide close-ups of the race facourites, whilst the third provided a general shot of the runners. All three cameras were linked back the the Dubai TV OB Truck using MTV-D transmitters.

As part of their contract with Dubai TV, Broadcast RF engineer wired up all of the racks, matrix’s, and synchronisers for all incoming and outgoing sources. These included Visions, Dubai TV and World feed/ABC

First ITTF WJC Event in Algeria for EPTV
Abdel Kader Salifou of France and Elizabeta Samara of Romania won the Boys and Girls’ Singles titles respectively at the ITTF 'World Junior Circuit' event in Algeria. Host broadcaster, EPTV, used Gigawave MVL-D2 links to beam live coverage of the event back to their studios.
Organising an international event is a daunting task for seasoned professionals. It is even more daunting when it’s your first event. However, Boualem Menguellat, President of the Algerian Table Tennis Federation, and his team seem to have done a pretty good job, by all accounts.
Commenting on the Committee's decision to stage the event in Marketing Manager, Mounir Bessah, said:

“Because we have now a junior team and these players are our future national senior team, we think it is important to work with the young players and you can see that the ages of our players in this tournament are no more than fifteen years old in general, we want to work hard with them”.

It’s been a busy time for the Algerian Table Tennis Federation. First a training camp followed by a the ITTF 'World Junior Circuit' event. Next, the African Junior Championships

Telecinco Leads Ratings with F1 Coverage
Thanks to Fernando Alonso’s phenomenal success in last year’s Driver’s Championship, Spanish broadcaster, Telecinco, is attracting over 50% of the viewing audience with their coverage of this season's Formula One races from Bahrain and Malaysia.
Telecinco viewers are kept informed as to the progress of their national hero with live interviews, pre and post-race reports and images from an on-site team of reporters thanks to RF facilities from Formula One specialists Total World Sports. These include a D-Cam wireless camera system, Reporter’s RF microphones and radio communications.

According to Telecinco’s F1 Producer, Miguel Cobos, choosing the supplier of RF equipment for their live coverage of F1 was easy,

“TWS could provide all the RF facilities we needed at a competitive price, including redundancy back-up for all major items of equipment. This is particularly important when you are working in places like Bahrain or Malaysia where it is difficult to find replacement equipment.”
Another thing that Miguel Cobos is impressed with is the new 'low-delay' version of the D-Cam 'Clip-on'. Used with a Diversity receiver at the Commentary booth full coverage of the F1 Paddock has been achieved without the need to provide, or cable for, a separate set of receivers. With a latency of around 40ms the system much improves the communication and talkback for the reporter.

A testament to the reliability of the D-Cam Clip-on was that during the Malaysian race weekend an ambient air temperature of 36 degrees (Celsius). This provided little cooling for the transmit module which operated for much of the time at an temperature of 61 degrees, with no adverse effects!
TWS has been providing Formula One broadcasters with technical facilities for over 15 years and is currently supplying facilities and crew theJapanese Network, Fuji Television, in addition to Telecinco.
