Glory for Victory in Dubai Grand Prix?
The Dubai Grand Prix brings the 2005 UIM Class 1 World Powerboat Championship to a climax with the Middle East’s top two challengers battling each other to grab a winning finish to the season.
Sponsored by Emirates Airline and Dubai Duty Free, the seventh and final round of the 2005 championship gets under way with Steve Curtis and Bard Eker in Spirit of Norway the odds-on favourites to secure the world title.

But, while it will take a mechanical disaster or some other unforeseen mishap to deny Curtis a seventh world championship triumph, Victory 77 and Qatar 96 are both determined to finish the season in a blaze of glory.
Live coverage of the race will be seen live on Dubai TV and other Gulf States thanks to a combination of Gigawave wireless camera systems and digital links.. The digital links will be used to transmit images from aerial cameras and chase boats to a Dubai Media OB truck at Mina Seyahi.

Egyptian Engineers Attend Training Course
A team of engineers from Egyptian Radio and Televison visited the Gigawave Technical Centre recently to attend a product training course following ERTU's purchase of MVL-D2 portable point-to-point microwave links.
The image on the left shows the five ERTU engineers with Gigawave Regional Sales Manager, Trevor Vizard, and Sales and Marketing Director, John Rolfe. The image on the right shows the Gigawave Chairman, Henry Barczynski, congratulating one of the engineers on his successful completion of the course.

ERTU already has a large number of Gigawave analogue links and purchased the MVL-D2 systems in preparation for the African Football Cup, due to take place in Egypt in January 2006.

Record Orders Announced at Dubai 2005
Record orders worth US $ 20.6 billion were announced during the first three days of the 9th International Aerospace Exhibition in Dubai. The show was officially opened by General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Defence Minister.
After the official opening ceremony, General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum toured the exhibition halls and static aircraft park before viewing the impressive flying display, which included a demonstration by the 800-seat A380.

During his extensive tour of Dubai 2005 His Highness, Sheikh Mohammed, was accompanied by cameramen from Dubai Media Inc (DMI) using four D-Cam wireless camera systems.
Live coverage of Sheikh Mohammed throughout his visit to Dubai 2005 was made possible using strategically located receivers inside the exhibition halls and the Royal Pavilion. Additional receivers were sited and on a hanger rooftop overlooking the external static display.

Dubai Media engineers were delighted with the performance of the D-Cam wireless systems during the seven hours the program was aired by Dubai TV. Operated in 16QAM, the picture quality easily matched that of the non-wireless cameras used by Dubai Media.
Perhaps the most testing moment for the D-Cam wireless camera systems was when two of the cameramen followed Sheikh Mohammed inside a Boeing 777-200LR ‘Worldliner’ that was parked in the static display area. The aircraft was the one that had just broken the record for the longest non-stop passenger flight. There was no picture break up, even right inside the plane.
To augment their own resources, Dubai Media flew in UK based wireless camera specialists TWS (Total World Sports). In addition to specialist engineering personnel, TWS supplied additional Gigawave digital receivers and other equipment.

“Airports are renown for being difficult locations to operate radio cameras due to the presence of security scanning equipment and high powered radar, but I’m pleased to say the four D-Cams showed no signs of any problems. The picture quality in low-delay 16QAM more than matched that of the cabled cameras.”
