Gigawave engineers are great believers in 'technology transfer and live streaming is the perfect example of how disparate technologies have come together to create a new business opportunity for the Company.

The original idea stems from a suggestion to stream on-board camera material from motorsport events over the Internet. Gigawave has, for many years, been pre-eminent in supplying on-board camera technology for the live coverage of a number of important FIA/FIM world championships. As such, the Company was well placed in terms of acquisition but needed to develop the technology to deliver live images over the Internet.

Today, live material is encoded on site and sent via satellite to the Gigawave Media Centre (formerly the Gigawave Head Office building) before being fed into the Internet backbone. The advantage of routing material via the Gigawave Media Centre, which houses Gigawave's media production and live streaming facilities. With computer flooring and structured wiring, the Media Centre is ideally suited to its new role. The new facility also has a 100MB uncontended link to London Telehouse and its own satellite earth station.

Routing all the material through the Gigawave Media Centre allows Gigawave production staff to 'package' material for a particular region/country, market or niche market. For instance, during last year's FIA GT Championship, the international feed was broadcast on GT1Live.tv, whilst certain teams and sponsors had their own dedicated channel. These channels feature enhanced coverage of the team and its drivers and are branded to reflect the team' sponsors.

Although Gigawave streaming technology was originally developed for motor racing and other sporting applications, the same technology can be used for security, surveillance and offshore applications. The following images illustrate typical 'Home' page graphics:
